I’m in the third week of living in the new apartment and only now have I found the time to photograph some of the rooms. I was thinking I might wait until the painting and unpacking was completely finished but to hell with it.
So this is the place. After six horrifyingly stressful days, and a full week of recovering, we’re settling in and trying to get it to look how we want it. I’ll say it’s pretty awesome to have a deck, a ton of open space and natural light. I haven’t lived in an apartment this big in a long while.
I guess that’s it for now… I’m distracted with other things which I may or may not write about at some point. Who knows. I’m a weirdo today.

I was going through some of my music because I got some new stuff based on Pitchfork recommendations and I found this show I played before I moved to California. I hear this track every once in a while when shuffle songs picks it up but I always skip past it. It’s a thirty-six minute long recording of an acoustic set that Joshua and I put together for a fun night in Hoboken with friends. I’ve been listening to a lot of Sahara Hotnights lately because I usually do when someone I care about treats me like shit, they are and will forever be my “Fuck off, I’m alright!” band. Anyway, I did one of their songs off Kiss & Tell that night and I figured I’d post it here. This is one of my favorite songs off that album and was a blast to perform, even if I was sucking down tea and lemon and water to combat the nasty cold I had that night.

My apartment looks empty; finally everything is starting to feel real. I’m so close to getting out of here I can taste it. I moved couches and other various furniture out of this place on Sunday morning while suffering from a rotten hangover. Gave all of it away.
The dudes (cats) were pretty stoked because now they have all this space in the living room to lie around and play in, hence the two photographs of them in this set.
This weekend was shite. I’m still recovering. Been writing a lot in the blog section (link above). I guess that’s it.

Two days ago I set out to tackle my living room, bedroom, and kitchen. In just about four hours, that passed unbeknownst to me thanks to an enthralling audiobook, I managed to pack up all food I know I won’t cook between now and the move date, emptied my cabinets, and cleaned/packed up pots and pans that are in good enough condition to leave outside with a “Free” sign and threw away the rest.
I will say right away, that this photo of my kitchen makes me smile a little bit. I do love that old rickety stove with its oversized pipe. Always did make for a pretty photo.
By this time Monday morning, my living room will be empty, as will a large section of my studio. I can’t wait for this furniture to go away. I can’t wait to not live here anymore. Here’s why:

So it’s two-thirty p.m. I haven’t done much in the way of productivity today but I did do one thing. I picked this damn lock. I feel badass. Reason for picking the lock? Well, at the end of my very long hallway there is a room that is used for storage most of the time. When I first moved in I put all my moving boxes in there to save them for the next time I split.
About a year ago I had a run in with a local homeless guy who was sleeping on my landing. Scared the living shit out of me. I locked that storage room door to prevent that from happening again. I don’t have a key.
Today I remembered that all my moving boxes were in there and that I had no way of getting to them… So, I decided to try and pick the lock. I did it. Hell yeah. The internet is fucking magical. It can teach you to do lots of resourceful things. Today was no exception.

As I’ve said, I’m moving which is forcing me to go through all of my stuff. I’ve always been a memory collector… I’m sure many other people are too. In my process of looking through my stuff to see what I want to get rid of and what I want to keep, I came across my collection of notes that people have sent me, passed to me, taped to things that one may need after a long shift at work (see: cigarettes), and the like.
These are from the last decade of my life. I have many, many more but a lot of them are super personal and not campy enough to post on the world wide web. These are cute, silly, and all together confusing at times. I love them. I’m sure I’ll add them as life goes on.

Mix making is something I used to do all the fucking time. I don’t know why I stopped. I tapped into my inner twenty-year-old and made a mix of what I’ve been listening to a lot lately. It’s fairly danceable with a few slower songs mixed in. I edited and compressed it for download for whomever wants it. You can find it here: Dance Halls and Basements.
Track Listing:
The Black Keys – Everlasting Light
The New York Dolls – Looking For a Kiss
Athlete – Hurricane
Band of Skulls – Friends
Rilo Kiley – Paint’s Peeling
Thee Headcoatees – Headcoat Girl
Free Energy – Dream City
Coheed & Cambria – Pearl of the Stars
Santogold / Hervé – L.E.S. Artistes [Hervé Remix]
Silversun Pickups – Catch & Release
Bloc Party vs. Gwen Stefani – Witches (What You Hunting For?)
The Veils – The Letter
DeVotchka – How it Ends
Some newer stuff, some definite old favorites. Enjoy. I’ll be posting these whenever I am inspired to make them.

I’m moving in just over a month. When I moved here, it wasn’t because I fell in love with the place. It wasn’t because I walked in and sensed this great flow of calming, homey energy. Truthfully? This place was a fucking disaster. The woman who lived in it before me smoked for the entirety of her nine year stay. The walls were legitimately brown, save for the squares and rectangles on the walls where pictures hung. There was rotting food left in the fridge, broken plastic children’s toys were scattered in every room. The floors were destroyed, the windows were old, and there was no life in this place whatsoever.
Trust me, I’m not exaggerating… It was as bad as it sounds. But I didn’t have a choice. It was a last minute “circumstance” and I had a very short time to find a very cheap place. So when I walked in and looked around… I couldn’t throw up like I wanted to. I had to look at it and envision what I could do with it to make it livable, at the very least. That was three years ago. I’ve had a lot happen to me since then.
